LICENCING

Here are the answers to a few of the more frequently asked questions about the licence requirements to race a Transmoto Enduro Event…

DO I NEED A ROAD MOTORCYCLE LICENCE TO TAKE PART IN A TRANSMOTO ENDURO EVENT?
No. Transmoto Enduro Events are held on private property, so there’s no need to have a motorcycle licence or a registered bike.

DO I NEED AN ANNUAL SENIOR NATIONAL MOTORCYCLING AUSTRALIA LICENCE OR A ONE EVENT COMPETITION LICENCE (OECL) TO RACE?
Yes, you will need one or the other. Although ‘recreational’ in nature, Transmoto Enduro Events are technically races, which are sanctioned by Motorcycling Australia (MA). So to make sure you are covered in the event of an accident, you will need MA insurance coverage. This is included in your Annual Senior National Motorcycling Australia Licence. But if you do not have an annual Senior National Motorcycling Australia Licence (or it’s not current/paid-up), you will need to purchase a One Event Competition Licence (OECL) to ensure you’re covered. Any OECLs required are ordered and purchased as part of the team’s online entry. Without this MA insurance coverage, you cannot ride

CAN I BUY A ONE EVENT COMPETITION LICENCE THROUGH RIDERNET FOR A TRANSMOTO EVENT?
No. Anyone who needs an OECL for a Transmoto Enduro Event will need to purchase it while completing the team’s online entry. In other words, the team captain will purchase any OECLs required by the entire team. Transmoto’s events do not use MA’s Ridernet system.

AM I ABLE TO PURCHASE A ONE EVENT COMPETITOR LICENCE AT THE EVENT?
Any rider requiring an OECL should have purchased it during the team’s online entry. But in special circumstances, there will be a strictly limited number of One Event Competition Licences available at the Event HQ on Saturday (for $85, cash only).

I’VE JUST REPLACED ANOTHER RIDER (WHO CAN’T MAKE THE EVENT BECAUSE OF INJURY OR OTHER PERSONAL CIRCUMSTANCES), SO CAN THEIR ONE EVENT COMPETITION LICENCE BE TRANSFERRED TO ME?
That depends on when this rider replacement takes place:

  • If it’s more than a week from the event, the OECL can be transferred (ie, at no additional cost to the incoming rider).
  • If it’s within a week of the event, the incoming rider will need purchase an OECL on Saturday at the event. As explained above, a strictly limited number of One Event Competition Licences are available for $85 at the event. The reason for this is that a One Event Competition Licence is a legal insurance document. It’s issued to a specific rider by the relevant Motorcycling Australia state body, and populated with riders’ details a week prior to the event. It is therefore non-refundable and non-transferable within a week of the event.

IF I’M RACING UNDER A ONE EVENT COMPETITION LICENCE, DO I NEED TO COMPLETE THE MA THEORY TEST?
No. Thankfully, this MA Senior Theory Test is no longer required for Transmoto Events, irrespective of which state they’re held in. There’s no need to perform a rider proficiency test either.

WHEN WILL MY LICENCE BE CHECKED AT THE EVENT?
Yep. When you arrive at the event venue on Saturday, you’ll need to show your driver’s licence (as proof of ID) and your Senior National Motorcycling Australia Licence (if you have one) during the in-car Rider Registration process. We’ll have a record of any entrants who are riding under a One Event Competition Licence and check those names off accordingly.

DID I HEAR A DRIVER’S LICENCE NEEDS TO BE LEFT WITH TIMING SERVICES IN EXCHANGE FOR THE TEAM’S TRANSPONDER?
Yes. The Timing Services crew will retain a team member’s driver’s licence as a ‘bond’ to ensure you return your team’s transponder and pouch at the end of the race.
